  21.           Version 2  of File/Archive  is primarily  a technical  upgrade of
  22.           version  1,   however,  it   also   contains   several   moderate
  23.           enhancements and error corrections.

  25.           *  The internal  structure of  the programs  has been  completely
  26.              rebuilt and  they have  been renamed.  The main or Master Menu
  27.              program is  now FAM.EXE and the standalone analysis program is
  28.              now FA.EXE.  Programs BRUN45.EXE, FA0.EXE, and FA30.EXE are no
  29.              longer needed  - their  functions have  been  incorporated  in
  30.              these two  new programs.   Version  1  used  a  technique  for
  31.              transferring between  programs which sometimes caused problems
  32.              when run  with older  versions of DOS. (This was due to errors
  33.              in DOS,  not File/Archive,  and they were corrected in DOS 3.0
  34.              and later  versions.)   Although the  programs  appear  to  be
  35.              larger, they actuallly require less total memory.

  37.           *  As explained  in the documentation, when File/Archive archives
  38.              files, it records its activity in a temporary transaction file
  39.              that is used to update the catalog when the archiving activity
  40.              is completed.  (It does this to minimize the time required for
  41.              the archiving  process itself.)  Version 2 still operates this
  42.              way, but,  if the  program is  interrupted and the transaction
  43.              file is  not successfully processed, the next time the program
  44.              is run, it will automatically detect the presence of this file
  45.              and update the catalog.

  47.           *  When creating a catalog report in a file, you can now view the
  48.              report on  the screen  from within  File/Archive.   The report
  49.              which shows  the catalog  in sequence by archive disk now also
  50.              includes the  size of  the files, so you have a better idea of
  51.              how full the disks are.

  53.           *  When  selecting   color  combinations,  you  can  now  include
  54.              blinking foreground  colors if  you wish.   You can also cycle
  55.              backward as well as forward through the various colors.

  57.           *  Several messages  have been  added to clarify what the program
  58.              is doing  at various  times.  For example, as the catalog gets

  69.              directory was  optional.    Unfortunately,  if  you  chose  to
  70.              exercise this  option and eliminate the archive directory, the
  71.              program would fail.  It now works properly.

  79.           A new  feature has been added to the Review/Add Entries Menu.  It
  80.           is  called   Select  Directories  and  displays  a  graphic  tree
  81.           structure of  all the  directories  on  your  disk.    By  merely
  82.           pointing to  a directory  and pressing  the Enter  key,  you  are
  83.           transferred directly  to the Add Menu with the path field already
  84.           filled in.   It  speeds up  and simplifies  the process of adding
  85.           directory entries to the system.

  87.           In the  Configuration Menu,  in redefining  function  keys,  some
  88.           earlier versions  did not  handle arrow  keys and tabs correctly.

  93.           Previous versions  of program  FA0.EXE contained  an  error  when
  94.           trying to  delete an  archived file  from an archive disk and the
  95.           archive catalog.   If  there were  files flagged  for recall, any
  96.           files flagged  for deletion would be deleted, but not the way the
  97.           documentation reads.   If  there weren't  any files  selected for
  98.           recall, then  the program  would not delete any files flagged for
  99.           deletion.  This has been corrected.

  103.           Anti-Virus Guard:  This new  feature has been added to detect the
  104.           possible presence  of a  computer virus.   It performs this check
  105.           every time  you start  either of  the programs  provided you have
  106.           started the  program from  the  drive  and  directory  where  the
  107.           program resides.   If  you start  the program  from  a  different
  108.           directory, the  check is not performed.  If everything appears to
  109.           be in  order, a  small checkmark  is displayed  in the lower left
  110.           corner of the main menu.  If something is wrong, a small "x" will
  111.           flash at  that location.   Should this happen, you should compare
  112.           the program  size annd date/time stamps with the original program
  113.           on the  distribution disk.   You  should be  able to  correct the
  114.           situation by replacing the suspect program with the original.
